Windsor Post Office to be Franchised

The Post Office has confirmed that the Windsor Branch is one of 108 Crown Post Offices being sold to become a franchise, either staying open on the same site under new ownership or reopening nearby.

In mid-November, it was revealed that the Windsor Post Office on Peascod Street was among 115 directly owned branches facing potential closure as The Post Office seeks to 'streamline' its services.

Since launching our campaign to Save Windsor Post Office, nearly 1500 people have signed the petition to keep the service open; our town centre has suffered significant losses with bank closures, and the Post Office has stood as a reliable alternative.

Your signatures, plus the letter we wrote to Post Office bosses, helped us convey a strong message to the Post Office executives: Windsor's community firmly desires and requires its Post Office to stay operational and at the heart of our town.

While we are relieved that outright closure seems to have been taken off the table, there is still concern about what a franchised branch might look like and what services could be lost.

Our campaign continues as it is vital that the Post Office either remains in its central location or, if moving is unavoidable,  another accessible and appropriate site nearby. Windsor Lib Dem Councillors will work with the council's economic growth team to ensure any potential franchisee is given support.

We will keep the pressure on to ensure that the Post Office hears your views and provides clarity for staff and customers as soon as possible.
