Windsor's Conservative Council is putting up Stealth Taxes on the Elderly

In a paper brought to the Conservative council cabinet at the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, the Conservatives revealed plans to increase parking charges in Windsor by up to 13% in some cases, far more than inflation, in another Tory Stealth Tax initiative. Meanwhile at the other end of the Borough prices in Maidenhead car parks will not generally rise at all.

The Conservative Cabinet Paper also blows the whistle on the Tories Stealth Tax Strategy, admitting that without the rise in parking charges Council Tax in the Borough would be going up by more.

"Ever since the Conservatives took over the Royal Borough, they have pretended to be cutting tax on residents. In fact what they have really done is to move taxation from the council tax onto council charges for the services the council provides" says Lib Dem spokesman Julian Tisi.

These Conservative Stealth Taxes have seen a tranche of above inflation rises in charges for services as diverse as getting married, using sports centres and swimming pools, home care help for elderly and handicapped, recycling for small business and of course car parking.

Local Lib Dems say that the Conservatives should stop trying to hide their tax rises in this way and be honest about how much council taxes and stealth taxes are rising.
