Windsor mother found guilty of killing 11-month-old son
A MOTHER has been found guilty of killing her baby son after inflicting an 'abhorrent catalogue of abuse' on him.
Emma Wilson, of Paddock Close, Windsor, was today unanimously found guilty of one count of murder at the Old Bailey after being accused of killing her 11-month-old son Callum in March 2011.
Wilson, 25, denied the accusations, but was found guilty after a five-week-long trial.
The court was told Wilson had inflicted an 'unsurvivable' brain injury as well as broken ribs, a broken wrist and a broken leg and extensive bruising on Callum.
Speaking after the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hunter said:
"This case has been a harrowing and emotional journey for all involved. The jury has listened to all the evidence and found Wilson guilty of murder.
"Callum's life was cruelly cut short and he suffered an abhorrent catalogue of abuse at the hands of his mother. This conviction demonstrates the absolute commitment of the prosecution team and witnesses to ensure justice was served.
"Our thoughts will always be with Callum."
Paramedics were called on Friday, March 18, 2011 and Callum was taken to Wexham Park Hospital with his injuries. He was transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where he died on Sunday, March 20 2011.
During the trial, the jury heard how neighbours told investigators they heard a series of five or six 'loud bangs' on the floor the evening before an ambulance was called 'so much so that the floor shook with the impact'.
Callum spent the first few months of his life with foster parents before being returned to the care of Wilson in November 2010.
Wilson was arrested on March 31, 2011, and denied causing harm to Callum during police interviews.
The prosecution told the court that they did not believe Wilson intended to kill her son, but she must have intended to cause serious harm.
Wilson is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, January 24.
