Windsor Lib Dems launch Alexandra Gardens consultation

WINDSORIANS can express their views on the future of Alexandra Gardens as a campaign group launches an online consultation.

The local Liberal Democrat-led group - 'Save Alexandra Gardens 2020' - have launched a public online consultation to get the views of residents about what they think should happen to the land along Windsor's Riverside and Alexandra Gardens.

Other areas the consultation covers includes Baths Island, Windsor Leisure Centre car park, Castle car park, and more.

On June 10, the Observer reported the campaign group - which was set up to stop excessive development at Alexandra Gardens car and coach park - accused the ruling Conservatives of progressing with development plans in secret for the gardens after their Freedom of Information request was refused on the grounds the information would "adversely affect the confidentiality of commercial or industrial information."

Julian Tisi, a Lib Dem activist and leader of the campaign group, said: "The Conservative-run council appear to be pushing through plans for the riverscape without any public input, so we're launching our own public consultation to find out what Windsor wants for Alexandra Gardens and the surrounding areas."

The leader of the council, councillor Andrew Johnson (Conservative: Hurley and Walthams) told the Observer the council is in no position to start awarding contracts as there are no concrete, detailed plans - but the council will be looking at proposals to improve the car and coach park at Alexandra Gardens where an extensive consultation will be carried out sometime in the future.
