Windsor Lib Dems back attempts to save Maidenhead's Bridge the Gap Cafe

7 Dec 2010

Liberal Democrats in Windsor are backing the campaign to save Maidenhead's "Bridge That Gap Cafe" at the Royal Borough's Council headquarters from Conservative plans to relocate it out of sight to a social services building. The project in which adults with learning difficulties run the cafe is aimed at helping greater integration into the wider community and is popular with both the adults involved and visitors and staff at the Town Hall.

The project is widely regarded locally in neighbouring social service authorities as an example of best practice and those campaigning to save the cafe believe strongly that its current location is important because of the contact it gives the learning impaired staff with ordinary members of the public.

"It would be extremely regrettable if we were to go back to the bad old days when people with disabilities of any kind were hidden away from public view." says local Lib Dem, Julian Tisi
