Windsor Fire Station Closed Two Nights in a Row
Despite promises that Windsor will retain dedicated 24 hour fire cover under the Royal Borough's Plans for a new fire station, Windsor's current St Mark's Road Fire Station has been shut for two nights this week.
The fire appliance remained uncrewed on the nights of the 11th July and 12th July, raising concerns that not enough fire-fighters have been allocated to Slough Fire Station to man the Windsor appliance.
"We can only hope that the crewing arrangements proposed for Slough Fire Station, once the St Mark's Road Fire Station in Windsor closes will be robust enough to ensure that the proposed Slough based, Windsor Fire Engine will be continuously manned, however with a review now considering redeploying fire-fighters from Slough to Bracknell, it is difficult to see how the Fire Service will find the fire-fighters in Slough to crew the Windsor appliance twenty four hours a day, 365 days a year." said a spokesman for Windsor Fire Station: NOT For Sale campaign.
It was later learnt that the Windsor Fire Engine was likely to be absent from Windsor, deployed to West Berkshire for much of the weekend.
Despite contributing 20% of council tax revenues to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has just 13% of the frontline Fire Service based within its area. (1)
