Windsor Castle will continue to be free to residents this summer
No changes will be made to charging for resident entry to Windsor Castle until after the summer. Following talks between the Leader of the Council. Simon Werner, Lead Member for Windsor, Amy Tisi, RBWM officers and the Royal Collection Trust, it was decided that more time is needed to work out a plan that is fairer for residents and commercially viable for the Royal Collection Trust.
The meeting, which was held today within Windsor Castle, was positive. Councillors presented the gathered representatives with the incredible result of the resident petition, led by Parliamentary candidate, Julian Tisi, which had reached nearly 2,600 signatures by then.
Julian said: " I was blown away by the response to the petition. I knew that people cared about this issue but the strength of feeling was incredible. People of all ages, backgrounds and political backgrounds came together to voice their disastisfaction and I'd like to thank everyone who signed."
Councillors made a strong argument that entry to the castle was recognition of the impact that the castle has on life in Windsor, from road closures, increased littter and large events. They were clear that residents are proud of the castle and the Royal connection, but it does affect many people day-to-day. The lack of consultation was also acknowledged.
Future talks will be held with the Royal Collection Trust to finalise a new deal for residents and we are keen that local people should benefit from the RCT's aims of increasing access to the castle for disadvantaged groups.
Remember, you can book ahead with your Advantage Card by calling the Castle or you can enter on the day if it's not too full.
