Thousands of pounds up for grabs for those left devastated by winter flooding
GRANTS to the tune of thousands of pounds are up for grabs for residents, businesses and community groups left devastated by the winter flooding.
Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF) set up a Flood Recovery Fund in February which has received £150,000 in donations and now the foundation is ready to start dishing out the grants.
Grants worth less than £250 have already been issued to people nominated by parish councils, but now residents who are vulnerable and those who have losses not recoverable elsewhere such as through lack of insurance can claim up to £1,000.
Andrew Middleton, chief executive officer of BCF, said: "We have all heard of the plight of people who are still out of their own homes, of those who lost irreplaceable family treasures and those who, for whatever reasons, just simply don't have insurance cover.
"These are the people we want to help and are inviting their applications."
Community groups working with people affected by the flooding or which have been directly affected themselves and have losses not covered by insurance can also apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000.
Businesses can also apply for relief worth £500 to £3,000.
Mr Middleton added: "We know there are businesses which were affected by flooding at the time and may still be struggling to get back on their feet. We want to hear from them."
