Sorry! Did they say Heathrow?
The decision today to expand Heathrow will come as a fresh blow to East Berkshire residents. As Tim Farron has said it's a betrayal of environment and communities.
The Heathrow decision has shown how the Government is out of touch with the very people they were supposed to serve especially our local MP's including the Prime Minister herself who has gone back on her own words.
What this goes to show is that the only party that is united and committed to preventing Heathrow expansion is the Liberal Democrats. Whilst Labour and the Conservatives remain divided we are showing a united front accross the board. Our membership is steadily increasing and if you want to join the ranks you can join here.
We are calling on Adam Afryie to follow his counterpart Zach Goldsmith to resign, as he too has failed his constituency on Heathrow.
The Conservative decision to go ahead with a third runway for Heathrow flies in the face of responsible government. Heathrow is already the sixth largest airport in the world and the environmental impact on East Berkshire residents of having an extra 260,000 flights a year will be catastrophic. The pollution will be exacerbated by an additional 30 million passengers travelling to the airport by 2030. Roads are already congested badly and the disruption caused by the need to reconfigure the motorways serving Heathrow will only add to the appalling burden for long-suffering locals. 'Only the Lib Dems have been consistently against airport expansion', says George Fussey, Chairman of East Berkshire Lib Dems. He says that 'it is ironic that a Prime Minister who claims to lead a one-nation conservative party has once again centred investment in the South-East with a blatant disregard for the environment and with a serious impacts on the health of residents.'
