The first thing the Conservatives did on taking control of the Royal Borough was to award themselves a 97% pay rise!

ONLY one councillor has claimed travel expenses in the last year, new figures show.

Slough Borough Council published a list of councillors' allowances from April 2012, to April 2013, last week.

The only councillor who claimed travel expenses was cllr Bharat Mittal, who claimed £27.

Slough councillors can only claim for travel outside the borough - with their basic allowance of £7,100 expected to be used to meet costs of travelling to council duties inside the borough.

This differs from neighbouring Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, whose 58 councillors claimed £8,686 worth of mileage allowance between them.

They can claim this allowance for any travel where they are representing the Royal Borough.

In total, £419,397 in allowances was paid to Slough's 41 councillors, compared to £582,360 between Royal Borough councillors.

Slough's biggest earner was council leader Rob Anderson. He was paid £25,560 - which includes the basic allowance and £18,459 for his special responsibility.
