Scandal as Conservatives impose 1000% Stealth Tax rise in Day Centre Charges

12 Jan 2011

Conservative Councillors meeting in a 6 minute meeting have given the nod to a scandalous 1000% rise in charges to ordinary people using day centres in the Royal Borough in a move which could see the Windsor Day Centre in Imperial Road closed. The disgraceful attack on vulnerable elderly people was voted through the Adult Social Services Scrutiny panel by 3 Conservative Councillors claiming that Liberal Democrat members of the panel were two minutes late. The whole meeting was concluded in 6 minutes flat.

"We're really concerned that this 1000% rise from £6 to £58 a day will mean that ordinary people will no longer be able to afford to use this vital service which they rely on" says local campaigner Pat Gare.

"In the long run there must be a real danger that the day centre on Imperial Road will close, as hardly any ordinary people on a pension will be able to afford £58 a day."

The 1000% rise was allowed through the Adult Social Services scrutiny panel without discussion by the following Councillors: Mrs Evans (Conservative - Windsor Castle Without Ward), Majeed (Conservative - Maidenhead Oldfield Ward), Lenton (Conservative - Horton & Wraysbury Ward). The rise is even larger for those vulnerable elderly who need special transport arrangements to get to the day centre.
