Save Our Tree

11 Mar 2011

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save a landmark tree will be staging a protest in Windsor on Sunday.

The cedar tree in St Leonard's Road - believed to be more than 200-years-old - is facing being uprooted by the Royal Borough due to damage being caused to two neighbouring properties.

Plans to fell the tree today (Friday) were postponed following objections from outraged residents, who launched a campaign.

A forum on the Royal Windsor website and Facebook and Twitter petitions called 'Save Our Cedar' have attracted hundreds of members.

The borough is now investigating if the tree can be saved without resulting in substantial costs.

Furious residents will meet next to the tree at noon on Sunday for the protest.

The Observer has launched a campaign to save the tree. For 'Save Our Tree!' posters contact Sally Stevens on 07740 674074.
