Parking Chaos in Springfield Road as Conservatives fail to Stop Mega-Office

Failure by Conservatives in the Royal Borough to properly defend Windsor from an unwanted office development off Alma Road will invitably lead to massive parking problems for residents in and around the Springfield Road area of Windsor as workers at the new office seek out the nearest parking spaces outside of the Central Windsor Residents Parking Zone.

"This new office is inevitably going to be followed by more business parking in the Springfield Road area. This will undoubtedly be followed by the Conservatives offering to introduce a Residents' Parking Scheme, which will charge residents to park outside their own homes" says local campaigner Julian Tisi.

The Conservatives' half hearted opposition to the Mega-Office saw local councillors turn the scheme down, on grounds which were too feeble to not get overturned at appeal. The Conservatives failed to oppose the scheme on the grounds of the lack of transport and parking, one of the key issues that will effect local residents across a wide area of Windsor.

At the planning appeal, legal council for the developer made it clear that at every stage of the process the council had indicated it was happy with their plans up until the final planning commitee meeting. The result of the Conservatives' feeble approach has been a substantial legal bill followed by total failure.

As a result of the plans the Council will get hundreds of thousands of pounds in Section 106 "planning gain" monies, whilst they also hope workers at the office will use the otherwise empty Windsor Racecourse Park & Ride.

Local Lib Dems think workers at the office are more likely to take the short walk to the end of Alma Road to park in Green Lane and Springfield Road rather than a bus ride through the rush hour traffic jam to the Conservatives' Racecourse park and ride.
