Ofsted Grades Royal Borough's Children's Social Services as "Requires Improvement"
Ofsted has graded Windsor & Maidenhead's failing council as "Requires Improvement" across all areas of its children's social services. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-25865352
The Conservative Council is revealed yet again, to be cutting corners in those areas of its responsibility which are less visible and only affect a minority of vulnerable residents.
Ofsted's summary comment stated:
"The overall judgement is that children's services require improvement."
"The authority is not yet delivering good protection and help and care for children, young people and families. It is Ofsted's expectation that, as a minimum, all children and young people receive good help, care and protection."
The report follows on from a previous report on Windsor's Children's centres which also graded them as "Requires Improvement" across the board, however this report, covering children in care and child protection has far more serious implications for the safety of children in the borough.
Local Lib Dem Campaigner, Julian Tisi responded to the report saying,
"This report, published days after the council elections, shows the human cost of the current unaccountable Conservative administration of the Royal Borough. For the sake of the vulnerable children who depend on the council's children's services to protect them from harm, I can only hope the new council will prioritise improving on their appaling record so far."
Ofsted's summary judgements were as follows:
The judgements on areas of the service that contribute to overall effectiveness are:
1. Children who need help and protection | Requires Improvement
2. Children looked after and achieving permanence | Requires Improvement
XXXXX | 2.1 Adoption performance | Requires Improvement |
XXXXX | 2.2 Experiences and progress of care leavers | Requires Improvement |
3. Leadership, management and governance | Requires Improvement |
