Money spent by Royal Borough leader on council credit card substantially increases
The amount spent by Royal Borough leader councillor David Burbage on his council credit card rose substantially last year.
The amount spent rose from £60.80 in 2011/12 to £365.80 last year, according to a Freedom of Information request submitted by the Observer.
Many purchases were train tickets to allow Cllr Burbage to travel to perform council duties.
A Royal Borough spokesman said: " The card negates the need for him to pay for train tickets himself and claim back as per his entitlement under the members' allowances.
"This kind of card is also held by authorised officers who need to procure goods or services to enable them to carry out their roles and functions within the council."
