The site, which has for many years been a controversial privately run car park, renowned for its strict enforcement of its parking conditions, would benefit from aesthetic improvement, however given the sensitive position of the site, next to the Thames riverscape and close to Windsor Castle and other historic buildings any development would need to be extremely sensitively done.

The site was included in our Windsor Riverside Development Consultation as part of our wider "Save Alexandra Gardens" campaign.

"Its really important that any development at the Castle Car Park is undertaken sympathetically, respects nearby historic architecture, provides green space, footpath and cycle access next to the river and isn't over scale compared to neighbouring buildings.

"Adequately provision must be made for parking for any new homes within the development and alternative provision will be needed for the lost parking with the demise of the car park.

"It's a complicated conundrum which needs careful thought and handling." says Save Alexandra Gardens Campaigner, Julian Tisi.

Locally Lib Dems have been calling for a joined up holistic approach to all of the Thames riverside in Windsor, sadly it looks like that this site is going to be developed piecemeal.

"Given this development, it is more important than ever that a proper plan for Windsor is brought about to avoid the town centre being carved up and sold off piecemeal. Residents' views must be put at the centre of any vision for the town." says Windsor resident and local campaigner Devon Davies.
