Lib Dems Welcome more Transparency on Councillors' Allowances

31 May 2009

Local Lib Dems have welcomed more detail being given to the public on councillors expenses and how much being spent on what by whom on the council

Lib Dem Council Leader, Cllr Simon Werner said

"It is good to compare Windsor & Maidenhead with other authorities. The BBC have recently looked at how 373 councils changed the amount paid in councillor allowances in the years 2004 to 2008. Had they looked at 2008/9 they would have picked up the 91% increase put through by Conservative councillors in the Royal Borough. No featured increase by any other council came close to that of the Windsor & Maidenhead Conservatives. The nearest rise to this was Corby in 2006/7 who upped their allowance by 72.6%."
