Lib Dems select Windsor Candidate following Historic North Shropshire Win
Liberal Democrats in Windsor are on an election footing as they select their Parliamentary candidate for the constituency and Boris Johnson's government teeters on the brink of collapse.
Julian Tisi, who lives in Windsor with his wife and three children, has been selected as the Liberal Democrat election candidate for his local area. Julian is a chartered accountant who has stood for the Liberal Democrats previously in Windsor and campaigned on local issues since he moved to the area over 15 years ago.
Last month the Liberal Democrats won the once safe Conservative seat of North Shropshire, overturning the Conservatives majority of almost 23,000 votes. It is the second parliamentary by-election the Liberal Democrats have won against the Conservatives this year, following their victory in nearby Chesham and Amersham last summer.
The Liberal Democrats are winning across the Blue Wall, a group of constituencies in the South of England which were formerly seen as safe Conservative seats.
In Windsor, like many parts of the Blue Wall, it is a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. Julian Tisi increased the Liberal Democrat vote share by over 11% at the last General Election, and the party gained 8 Council seats in Windsor and Maidenhead in 2019, whilst the Conservatives lost 15 seats in a dramatic swing of local support.
Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey MP commented:
"Julian is a passionate campaigner for his community and will be a fantastic candidate for the Liberal Democrats.
"The Conservative party is taking Windsor for granted. As we saw last month in North Shropshire, people have had enough of Boris Johnson and his grossly incompetent Government. The endless drumbeat of sleaze and scandal coming out from Downing Street is going down a stink in the Tory's Southern Blue Wall.
"Windsor is a winnable Blue Wall seat and it will clearly be a two horse race between a committed local Liberal Democrat team, and an out of touch Conservative party led by Boris Johnson"
Julian Tisi, Liberal Democrat candidate for Windsor, said:
"I am delighted to have been selected as the Lib Dem candidate for my local area. Windsor is at the heart of Boris Johnson's crumbling Blue Wall which the Conservatives have and continue to take for granted.
"There is a real sense of anger and frustration in Windsor at how the Conservatives have run the Council.
"The Conservative led local Councils have shown complete disregard for the views of local people and endlessly bulldozer through unpopular decisions. The Liberal Democrats are fighting for a fair deal for local people, including battling to save green spaces from unwanted development including along the Windsor riverfront and at Jealott's Hill."
