After hard work from Lib Dem campaigners, led by Helen Morgan MP, the Government has conceded an amendment which will ensure that service accommodation meets the Decent Homes Standard.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Windsor, Julian Tisi, said:

"This is good news for Windsor military families who serve our country and deserve decent housing but who have for far too long been left with unacceptable accommodation.  I have seen some of the housing at the Broom Farm estate which is simply not good enough.

I thank my colleague Helen Morgan MP for her tireless effort and the work that Liberal Democrat campaigners put in since our Autumn conference when we passed our motion “A fair deal for our armed forces community”.

“This just shows how much positive influence even a backbench MP can have”.

Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said:

I’m very pleased that the Government has listened to my proposal and pledged to improve military accommodation. I will do everything I can to make sure this becomes a reality.

“Now it is crucial to make sure that the Government’s pledge is delivered. Military families have heard promises from Ministers before but they are still waiting for their housing to be sorted out.”
