Lib Dems pledge to Become Carbon Neutral by 2020
Liberal Democrats in the Royal Borough have promised to make the Council Carbon Neutral by 2020, if they are successful in the forthcoming local elections.
Amongst the measures planned by the local Lib Dems are for a massive switch to both buying and generating green, sustainable energy for the borough.
"Thanks to changes introduced, by Lib Dem Chris Huhne, to the government's feed in tariff, the Royal Borough and associated organisations, like schools, can now start to generate their own, clean , green, electricity using wind turbines and solar photo-voltaic cells." says local Lib Dem Julian Tisi.
The Lib Dems have promised to publish a "road map" for making the borough Carbon Neutral within the first 100 days of a Lib Dem Council elected in May 2011 and to allocate £1million for "Invest to save" green technology projects.
The current Conservative Council is already reaping the benefits of previous invest to save projects started by the last Lib Dem Council.
Invest to save is where the capital investments made in new technology and capital items produce annual savings in spending larger than the cost of repaying the debt. The savings beyond the debt repayments can then be used to maintain or improve services.
