Windsor Liberal Democrats launch their Fire Station petition

Liberal Democrats in the Royal Borough have launched a Petition to keep Windsor's St Mark's Road Fire Station open after the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Authority came up with a plan to close Windsor's Fire Station. (3)

Meanwhile the Windsor Express has revealed that in the 3 months following the transfer of Windsor's night crews to the new Wokingham Fire Station and the conversion of Windsor to a "daytime only" fire station, Windsor Fire Station has infact been manned by scratch crews drawn from across the county on all but 3 nights. (2)

"We were told that the move to make Wokingham 24 hours a day and downgrade Windsor to a daytime only fire station was being done to match fire fighting resources better to demand.

"A Freedom of Information Act request to the Fire Authority at the end of December reveals that in the 3 month period following the change, the Windsor Fire Engine was called out at night on 45 occasions, whilst the supposedly busier Wokingham appliance was called out on just 33 occasions." (1)

says local campaigner Julian Tisi

People wanting to sign the petition should look out for a leaflet coming through their door in the near future. We will publish a link to the petition on this site in the next few days.
