Local Lib Dem led Campaign Group "Save Alexandra Gardens 2020" are calling on the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council and the Royal Borough Property Company to postpone any decisions about development at Alexandra Gardens Coach & Car Parks until the Covid-19 crisis has passed.

Conservative plans to develop Alexandra Gardens, which have thus far been developed in secret, first came to the Lib Dems' attention in March 2019 after a disagreement on social media between local Conservatives about plans for Alexandra Gardens, however attempts by local Liberal Democrats to get information on the plans through a Freedom of Information request to the Royal Borough in 2019 were rebuffed.

"We know the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is struggling with big debts and deficits and that the site at Alexandra Gardens is potentially worth a lot of money, however Alexandra Gardens is an exceptionally important site to the people of Windsor.

"Last time the council proposed building a Multi-Storey Car Park at Alexandra Gardens in 2008 it was strongly rejected by local people. We believe that any decision about developing the coach and car park needs to be taken in public. For Windsor people to have a proper say about what happens at Alexandra Gardens, this decision must be delayed until people can all join in." says local Lib Dem activist, Julian Tisi, who is helping to lead the campaign

"Plans for a development of oversized expensive flats would not be welcome. Once this land at Alexandra Gardens has been sold off, it can never be reclaimed.

If there are sensible plans for how tourist coaches could drop off in the town and park elsewhere, instead of parking at Alex Gardens, we'd like the coach park incorporated into Alexandra Gardens to create a larger green space for everyone in Windsor to enjoy." says Clarence Road resident Mark Wilson.

The Save Alexandra Gardens Campaign have submitted new Freedom of Information Act requests to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in an attempt to get the Conservatives to own up to what they are up to.
