Lib Dem Gain from Conservatives in Woodley

5 Jun 2009

In a shock for the Conservatives, local Lib Dems in Woodley, took a seat from the Conservatives in the Loddon ward of Woodley Town Council.

Final Results were:

Matt Hayward (Lib Dem) 609 (51%)

Conservatives 519 (44%)

Labour 62 (5%)

turnout 41%

The results show that voters switch to the Conservatives nationally is more about upset with Labour than anything positive about the Conservatives.

Where the Lib Dems are able to get our message across, against the weight of media indifference, we are still taking seats from the Conservatives, despite their vast advantage in "funny money" from millionaires whose UK tax and residential status is unclear.

"The clear message from these results is that in much of our area Labour cannot win. In Woodley, like Windsor, the contest is a choice between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats." says Windsor Lib Dems' Julian Tisi.
