Labour Candidate comes out in favour of closing fire station
Speaking on BBC radio Berkshire's Andrew Peach show on 16th March the Labour Candidate for Windsor, who lives in London, came out in support of trusting the fire authority to make the optimum allocation of resources. Speaking on the same show local Lib Dem Julian Tisi said he was extremely proud that the then Lib Dem Council had stopped the complete closure of the Fire Station in 2006 and that he was fully in support of the fire station remaining open 24/7.
"Its really clear that the Labour Candidate is out of his depth on this issue and isn't fully aware of the background in relation to the problems with the Fire Authority's use of statistics in support of their case.
"The stretching of Slough's Fire Engine to cover Windsor will also downgrade night time cover in Slough.
"Whilst we would prefer Windsor & Maidenhead to remain within Berkshire Fire and Rescue, the Fire Authority's proposals clearly represent a down grading of fire cover both in Windsor and Slough, which regrettably leaves the Royal Borough with no choice but seek more control over fire services."
