Human tissue licence revoked at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals Trust
An under-pressure hospital trust has had its licence to store human tissue revoked over concerns out-of-date bones are being used in surgery.
A report published by the Human Tissue Authority on Wednesday, identified five major shortfalls at the Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals Trust following its inspection in February.
It said the establishment had elected to revoke its own licence following the inspection.
The report said the shortfalls demonstrated the need for the establishment to have robust procedures and documentation in place to ensure bone products are not used beyond their expiry date.
It added the trust needs to have appropriate risk assessments and incident reporting systems in place in relation to the activities being carried out under the authority of their licence.
Earlier this month governors voted to approve the acquisition of the trust by Frimley Park Hospital.
