Home from home for elderly

2 Mar 2007

RBWM leader Mary-Rose Gliksten cut the ribbon yesterday (Thursday 1st March) when she opened a new day centre for older people. The Windsor Day Centre in Imperial Road is purpose-built to replace the old Dedworth Road premises at Warden's Lodge and a programme of events aimed at senior citizens in the Royal Borough has already been organised.

Manager Lucia Mathews and her team have retained the quizzes and bingo sessions while adding visual art events and exercises in conjunction with SMILE (So Much Improvement with a Little Exercise). It is also planned to introduce aromatherapy and silver surfing with PCs later this year.

Mrs Gliksten said: "The council always gave the assurance that day services in Windsor would continue after the re-development of the old Warden's Lodge site and now, just a matter of months later, we have a purpose built centre catering for up to 20 people a day."
