Higher allowances wanted for RBWM councillors

Councillors could have their allowances doubled after the Royal Borough was told it should increase the 'frugal' figure it dishes out to elected members.

An independent remuneration panel has recommended that the basic allowance for all councillors should be almost doubled from £3,843 to £7,180.

The report says allowances have hardly changed for seven years, despite previous recommendations for increases, and that they are now well below the market rate.

The report will go to full council for a decision tomorrow.
