Give Us a Break

MAYTIME - spring flowers, some sunshine and, if you live in Windsor, incessant aeroplane noise - sometimes 600 aircraft daily.

My family and I have lived here over 25 years and it hasn't got better. Thankfully, the Royal Borough's Liberal Democrat administration, whilst recognising the airline industry's benefits, is determined to improve things and this is a priority for me if I'm elected MP.

We are campaigning to be treated like everyone else close to the airport. On the East side, residents get some respite and, whilst continuing to oppose the 50-year-old Cranford Agreement, we will also fight for regular respite periods for Windsor …and soon.

We want the noise burden to be shared. Rather than Windsor receiving non-stop noise we ask that other areas accept additional noise, for short periods. This seems not only fair but reasonable. To achieve this we are putting more Councillors (including myself) onto relevant decision bodies.

You can help us gain respite. Whenever aircraft intrusion is excessive ring the noise complaints line - 0800 344844 - and complain. I saw a noise complaints map recently and Hounslow gets respite because they complain regularly. It's time we did the same

Perhaps next springtime our joint efforts will have brought some peace.
