FoI bid to answer phone call mystery

27 Mar 2010

A LEADING councillor is demanding the phone records behind an alleged plot to remove the Royal Borough's deputy leader.

Cllr Simon Werner, who heads up the Lib Dems group, has applied for the mobile records of former political adviser to the council, Andre Walker, to discover who he was talking to during a secretly taped conversation overheard on a train.

The request has been made under the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act, which gives the public the right to obtain information held by public authorities and, by law, a reply must be sent within 20 days.

The move comes after Mr Walker resigned from the council after a recording of the phone conversation in which he plots to oust Cllr Alison Knight, was posted on YouTube by an outraged resident who overheard the discussion on a late-night train to Windsor.
