FLOODS DEMONSTRATE CONTINUED NEED FOR ST MARK’S ROAD FIRE STATION

Liberal Democrats in Windsor are calling on the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority
to reverse its closure of Windsor's St Mark's Road Fire Station following the recent floods in the Thames Valley
.

Constant cutting of the Fire Service in our area has seen the number of fire-fighters in Windsor and Slough reduced from 94 to 68 and Windsor's St Mark's Road Fire Station closed. Yet during the recent floods, the full sized St Mark's Road Fire Station, was re-opened, proving its worth as a base for the large number of fire crews and fire appliances called into help with flooding in Old Windsor, Datchet and Wraysbury.

"We have been sent photos by concerned local residents showing Windsor's full-sized, St Mark's Road Fire Station, packed with fire and rescue equipment from all over the country," says Windsor Liberal Democrats' Julian Tisi,

"It's clear that the Royal Borough Tories' proposed Mini Fire Station could not have provided anything like the required facilities to accommodate all of the extra crews deployed into our area over the past few weeks"

"It's time that both the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority and the Royal Borough Conservatives admitted their mistakes and conceded that Windsor's full-sized fire station is essential for residents' safety, both now and in the future'. says local campaigner Richard Fagence.

The Liberal Democrats continue to campaign for our 3 principles, a proper Fire Engine, a proper fire crew 24 hours a day and a proper Fire Station in Windsor. Residents who want to sign our "Windsor Fire Station: NOT for sale petition" can do so online at windsorlibdems.org.uk/Fire-Station.
