Flood forum to be set up in Eton Wick to deal with sewage contaminated ditches

A flood forum will be set up in Eton Wick to help deal with problems associated with flooding and sewage contamination.

A public meeting was held yesterday to discuss issues with the Roundmoor and Boveney ditches after they were contaminated with sewage from the Slough Sewage Treatment Works, in Wood Lane, Cippenham, during the January floods.

Homeowners in the village complained about 'blue, grey effluent sludge' and a 'foul smell' coming from the ditches, but the Environment Agency (EA) said that water quality had returned to 'normal' in October.

Speaking at the meeting, Craig Miller, the Royal Borough's waste and environmental protection manager, announced plans for the forum which would be made up of members from the council, EA, Thames Water, and members of the community.

He said: "The flood forum is going to be a really useful mechanism for you as a community and us as an organisation by bringing the key players together, producing an action plan and monitoring progress.

"It's unusual for a forum to be offered for a community as small as Eton Wick but it's something that will encourage input and will give us the opportunity to put together a solution."
The meeting took place at Eton Wick Village Hall, in Eton Wick Road.
