Councillors question why Windsor plans revealed at Maidenhead forum
DETAILS on what the Alexandra Garden's coach and car park could be developed into were revealed - but Windsor councillors questioned why this was announced at a Maidenhead town forum.
At the forum on Wednesday, March 31, Barbara Richardson, managing director of the council's property company, gave a sneak peek at what could happen to the site after plans were left on hold for a year due to the pandemic.
The garden's 4.58 acre coach and car park could be replaced by a 'mixed-use' development and the car parking could be relocated within Windsor.
The coach park could be relocated and have a coach drop-off point.
The 2.3 acre Baths Island could also be developed - but no further details were given at the meeting.
Joint venture partners for the scheme to go ahead are yet to be selected and that process will take place sometime this summer, the forum heard.
A public consultation will be held sometime next year.
Barbara Richardson said: "We will be looking at a vision for Windsor when we do this similar to the one in Maidenhead as this will have significant land receipts for the local authority and it will give us the ability to look at the wider Windsor town centre and what connectivity and issues, we need to deal with there."
The chair of the Maidenhead town forum, councillor David Coppinger (Con: Bray) jokingly said: "I'm delighted that Windsor has now become part of Maidenhead. It's about time."
