Councillor plots challenge to Royal Borough leader
A SENIOR Conservative councillor is plotting a party leadership challenge in the Royal Borough, according to Observer sources.
Bisham and Cookham ward councillor Richard Kellaway is sounding out support for a potential leadership bid to overthrow Royal Borough council leader Cllr David Burbage, according to sources.
The Observer understands Cllr Kellaway is weighing up his options over whether or not to make the challenge dependant on the amount of support he can muster.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Conservative Group will hold its annual general meeting on Monday, where group members can run for new positions.
When contacted by The Observer, Cllr Kellaway refused to comment.
Cllr Kellaway served in the Royal Borough cabinet from May 2008 to October 2012, when he was the one casualty of a reshuffle. He has been a ward councillor for Bisham and Cookham since the 2007 borough election.
Cllr Burbage has served as leader of the Conservative party since 2003 and leader of the council since 2007, when the party won that year's election.
