Conservatives Struggle to Get to Grips with their Own Actions on Buses

25 Apr 2009

In a bizarre attempt to abdicate responsibility for their own actions, Conservatives in Windsor & Maidenhead have launched a stunning attack on the Lib Dems in the borough for the Conservative Council's cuts to bus services in Maidenhead.

According to the Conservatives the bus cuts made by the Conservative Council are the fault of the Lib Dems opposition.

The Conservatives made the changes largely in secret and didn't fully inform anyone outside of the Conservative council group, including the Lib Dem Councillors or the passengers, what was going on until after the changes had been made.

Worse still only a week or so before the disastrous snowy day when the routes change the Conservative Council issued a Press Release on 23rd January which said that the key No6 bus route in Maidenhead wouldn't change: "Route 6 will remain the same but will additionally serve St Mark's Hospital."

The changed bus routes were not brought to any council meeting for discussion by councillors, so effectively the Conservatives formed their bus plans in private.

"The Conservatives brought forward these plans without reference to any of the council's democratic scrutiny processes. If they had acted democratically and brought their plans to scrutiny Liberal Democrat councillors could have helped them to avoid their mistakes." says Lib Dem leader Simon Werner.

"This just goes to show that the Local Conservative's assault on Democracy is already leading to bad decision making in the borough - the No 6 bus is a key example" says Windsor's Lib Dem spokesman Julian Tisi.
