Conservatives Plan Park & Ride on Green Belt - but Think It Won't Work

29 Jan 2009

Local Lib Dems have slammed Conservative Hypocrisy on the M4 Park & Ride. The Conservatives had opposed the principle of the M4 Park & Ride because they claimed it would have to be built on a Green Field site in the Green belt. They also claimed that the whole concept of a Park & Ride was a failed concept that didn't work and belonged in the past.

Now it turns out that the Conservatives are proposing a Park & Ride built on Green Fields within the Green belt at Windsor Race Course.

"It is difficult to know why the Conservatives are building a Park & Ride at all, when they spent the whole of last year telling residents in Windsor that Park & Ride Schemes don't work."

said Lib Dem Campaigner Julian Tisi.

"We think any Park & Ride needs to be placed to intercept the 53% of traffic which enters Windsor along the M4 spur road."

The main difference between the two plans is that the Conservative Plan is for 400 spaces instead of 2100 spaces and uses buses travelling into town through a traffic black-spot instead of traffic free trains. The other difference, commented one cynic, is that the Tory Park & Ride is built in an opposition ward instead of a Conservative one.
