Another Conservative Councillor is forced out as a result of poor behaviour.

A BY-ELECTION has been called to fill a vacancy left after a councillor resigned over a comment he made about travellers.

A by-election will be held on December 11 after Cox Green councillor Alan Mellins had his resignation accepted by the Royal Borough after the comment was made during a public meeting on Monday, October 20.

The comment came in a discussion on the subject of travellers and how to evict groups who are illegally camped on land.

The Conservative Group in the Royal Borough described the comment as 'deplorable', and also suspended him from the group, pending an investigation.

Under the council's constitution, by-elections are held at the request of two councillors when a casual vacancy arises for a seat.

The deadline for nominations for candidates is Friday next week (14/11).
