BREAKING NEWS: Council's fire plans thrown out

20 Nov 2009

The Local Government Association has ruled against the Royal Borough's application to pull out of Berkshire Fire Service.

The council had applied to get powers to run their own service under the 'Sustainable Communities Act' but needed the agreement of the LGA to move forward.

The meeting, chaired by Cllr Keith Mitchell (Leader of Oxfordshire County Council) took place at Transport House in Westminster today and was the third of a four stage agreement process needed to enact the proposal.

Leader of the Council,David Burbage said:"The LGA should hang their heads in shame for standing up for those at Berkshire Fire Service who are determined to shut Windsor Fire Station. However we are still committed to pulling out of Berkshire Fire and will now apply directly to the Secretary of State."
