The BBC's projection Puts the Lib Dems 2nd nationally with 28% of the vote

According to the BBC's estimated projected national vote share based on the local elections - the Conservatives are on 38%, the Lib Dems are in second place on 28% and Labour are third with 23% - a historic low.

Of the three parties only the Lib Dems share of the vote is up from last year's local elections, with the Conservatives down by 6%.

"This shows that the Lib Dems continue to move forward in terms of our share of the vote"

says local Lib Dem Julian Tisi,

"sadly due to our medieval voting system the millions of people who vote Lib Dem continue have their votes stolen by Labour and the Conservatives who are over represented in our parliament and local government."
