All Party Agreement at Royal Borough on Heathrow Runway 3
The Royal Borough is to continue to oppose any plans for a third runway at Heathrow.
Councillors of all parties at the Royal Borough voted to oppose proposals being promoted for south west runway option put forward by Heathrow which includes parts of Wraysbury being bulldozed and flattened.
Councillors competed to second the motion on Tuesday 24th September with half a dozen councillors putting themselves forward to attach their name to the motion which was passed unanimously.
Independent, Councillor Malcolm Beer launched an amendment calling for the council to oppose all plans for a third runway at Heathrow, which was also adopted with the full support of the council.
The council will now outline the Royal Borough's opposition to the UK Airports Commission which is considering future airport capacity.
Quoted in the Royal Borough Observer, Cllr Beer said: "Speaking from experience, Heathrow want communities to fight against each other. We have to fight together. We are regarded as one of the leading councils in opposing these issues and I would like to keep that up."
Heathrow submitted its favoured options for expansion as a third runway to the north west, south west or north east of the current site to the UK Airports Commission in June.
At the end of the discussion, Lib Dem councillor Simon Werner welcomed the bi-partisan approach adopted by councillors of all parties.
Nationally the Liberal Democrats and Greens remain opposed to further expansion at Heathrow, whilst Labour and the Conservatives appear to be moving in favour.
