50 BEDROOM HOTEL PLANNED FOR ST LEONARDS ROAD

The planning application for the hotel on St Leonards Road is problematic for residents and Windsor Liberal Democrats support residents' calls for councillors to refuse the planning application.
The building of a 50-bedroom hotel of St Leonards Road is not good for Windsor on the following grounds:
Firstly it will have a detrimental effect on local businesses such as B&Bs, who look to the council to make decisions in their interests (although attracting larger businesses to the town is a must) the building of a 50 bedroom hotel here will inevitably swallow some of the business from tourism due to marketing reach and brand attraction. This is not a good move in terms of supporting these hardworking smaller businesses in the streets surrounding the Town Centre.
Secondly, it will not be good for air quality as the increase in traffic in that part of town will put further car movements on the road in an already congested area. This will lead to more idling and the detriment of air quality for local residents. When you consider the proximity to Heathrow and the congestion, this will be a huge problem in terms of keeping the air quality within health guidelines as currently they regularly exceed this.
Lastly, congestion more generally will be a problem due to the inccrease in traffic accessing the site and the proximity of Windsor Girls School to the proposed site. At school times (which is when check in and out will be quite possible) there will be further disruption around what is already a busy junction with Legoland traffic and commuters.
It is clear to the Windsor Liberal Democrats that this planning application will be disruptive while it is being built but will continue to be so after because the current infrastructure in place is simply not there to support a hotel of this size. The detriment to air quality, congestion and local business is why we believe this to be a poor planning choice for Windsor.
