130 Children Missing form RBWM Children's Services in 2017
A report in the Windsor Express (1) reveals that total of 130 children went missing at some point from the Royal Borough's children's services last year.
A Freedom of Information request showed that the figures included three under-fives as well as 70 aged 15 to 17. The comparative figure shows 98 missing in 2016 and 64 in 2015.
Reasons a child may have been recorded as missing included wandering off, going to see friends or needing to clear their head.
Since August, the borough's children's services have been run by Achieving for Children, owned by the Royal Borough in collaboration with two other Conservative Councils: Kingston-Upon-Thames and Richmond-Upon-Thames.
A spokesman for the Windsor Liberal Democrats said; "We need to be reassured that this increasing statistic, is the product of better and earlier awareness of missing children, rather than increasing carelessness on the part of the organisation to which the Royal Borough has delegated its responsibilities."
