Lib Dems Slam Plans to Sneak Through Extra Night Flights at Heathrow

November 10, 2009 5:13 PM

Back door plans to sneak through an "outrageous" increase in night flights have been slammed by Liberal Democrat Susan Kramer MP.

The Civil Aviation Authority has listed key issues for the Olympic Games including increasing the number of aeroplanes in our skies and lifting the ban on night flights. It is feared that some of these changes could be made permanent.

The MP has tabled questions in Parliament to the Department of Transport to ask for urgent clarification on the plans.

Windsors Lib Dems' spokesman Julian Tisi said:

"It is outrageous that the Olympics are being used to sneak night flights in through the back door.

"Thanks to the Conservatives Windsor has lost one Olympic Legacy in the form of the abandoned M4 Park and Ride. Now it seems Labour are arranging sleepless nights caused by the roar of huge jet engines as an unwelcome alternative Olympic legacy for those living under the Heathrow flight path.

"Windsor already has precious little respite from the constant barrage of noise and pollution from flights. The local Lib Dems will fight tooth and nail to stop any attempt to reduce the short night time break."
