Homes for Heroes

The Liberal Democrats Windsor Constituency's Campaign for Decent Homes for Service Personnel & Service Families

Julian Tisi and Lee Hibbard in Cavalry Crescent 2

Julian Tisi and Lee Hibbard inspect housing in Cavalry Crescent, just off St Leonard's Road. Lee has family members serving in HM Forces and living in service housing.

The Liberal Democrats believe everyone is entitled to a decent home.

Over the past few years the Government has introduced new standards for accomodation for tennants in council and housing associations homes.

The Local Liberal Democrats believe that our servicemen and their families are entitled to expect a high standard of accommodation, in return for the service they render the nation.

As an absolute minimum Armed Forces housing should meet the "Decent Homes Standard" established for social housing, really we should be aiming much higher.

The decent homes standard for social housing suggests that a "decent home" will have reasonably modern facilities which it goes on to define as including a kitchen which is under 20 years old and bathrooms under 30 years old.

In a recent interview on Aldershot's "Garrison FM" Brigadier Mark Armstrong, Director of Infrastructure admitted that disgracefully, at the current rate, armed forces housing will only get refurbished once every 80 years.

This is simply unacceptable to local Liberal Democrats.

Our homes for Heroes campaign is on-going so please re-visit this page to keep up with developments.

In the meantime if you have any comments to make about the quality of service accomodation within the Windsor Parliamentary Constituency or The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead we would like to hear about them. Please e-mail homesforheroes@windsorlibdems.org.uk

Any information provided will be treated in confidence if requested.
