The Park & Ride for Windsor was first proposed by the then Conservative Berkshire County Council in the 1970s. During the intervening period it enjoyed all party support until 2007, when faced with the prospect of finally getting funding for it from the government as part of the preparations for the Olympic Rowing events at Dorney Lake, the Conservatives changed their minds.
The M4 Park & Ride Survey was conducted by the Liberal Democrats in the first half of 2008. The survey was conducted across central Windsor and Datchet and was sent to a little under 10,000 households. We had just over 1000 respondents, more respondents than the council's recent parking consultation had from Windsor and double the response they had in the areas we covered. Initial results were released to the press in September 2008.
The final results were compiled and released to the press during December 2008, although the odd survey response continues to be sent in. The Final Results show overwhelming support for the M4 Park & Ride - with 87% of respondents supporting the scheme in principle.
(NB The Lib Dems propose using the railway - but building the carpark on a brownfield site identified by local business in Slough)
