Edward McMillan Scott was thrown out of the Conservatives for opposing their links to extremists

Julian Tisi, the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Windsor this weekend helped to welcome former Conservative leader in the European Parliament Edward McMillan Scott MEP as a new member of the Liberal Democrats at the party's Spring Conference in Birmingham.

Edward McMillan-Scott MEP was last year expelled from the Conservative party for refusing to back the nomination of the Tories preferred candidate, Polish MEP Michael Kaminski, a man with extremist links as their candidate for the vice-presidency of the European Parliament.

Standing against and defeating Michael Kaminski MEP for the vice-presidency position, Edward McMillan-Scott was then on 15 September 2009, without any prior notification, expelled from the Conservative party after 25 years as an MEP, four years as leader of the MEPs and three years on the party's board.

Julian Tisi says:

"I am pleased to help welcome a senior former Conservative into the Liberal Democrats which has become a natural home for many who don't trust the Tories now. I am also appalled at the way a former leader of the Conservatives in Europe, a current vice-president of the European Parliament and a Tory party member of 43 years has been treated by Cameron's Conservatives.

He was expelled from the party for refusing to back the nomination of an extremist Polish MEP as leader of the Conservative grouping in Europe. Lord Archer was only suspended by the Conservatives when he was convicted and jailed for perjury.

If this is the way the Conservatives treat their friends I would hate to see how they treat the British people if they win the next election."

Edward McMillan-Scott's defection to the Lib Dems has come in the same week that locally the Conservative political adviser Andre Walker was forced to resign after a member of the public posted a recording of a phone conversation, on the internet, claiming he was conspiring to oust the council's Conservative deputy leader Alison Knight.
