Councillor turns to David Cameron over fears of 'plan' to oust him

A shock appeal for help has been made to Tory leader David Cameron by a Royal Borough councillor who believes his Conservative colleagues are trying to oust him.

Councillor Stephen Smith, 46, has represented Eton Wick for the Conservatives for six years.

But he has become so convinced that the party elite want to replace him that he has emailed Mr Cameron.

His fears escalated after he was seemingly mentioned in a recording of Andre Walker, the council's Tory political assistant, on a train plotting to oust various Conservative councillors.

Mr Walker resigned on Friday, March 5, after the tape was posted on-line by a nearby passenger who recorded part of his conversation on Tuesday last week.

This week councillor David Hilton who is chairman of Windsor Conservative Association said he had spoken to Mr Smith about the issue.

He said it was in the hands of the association who was selected or reselected to stand for the Conservatives but insisted: "The selection process has not started yet."
