Teachers claim Windsor schools are missing out on cash

July 26, 2009 1:14 AM

Reported on the Windsor Express / Advertiser website, teachers from Windsor and Ascot spoke out about concerns that Windsor Schools are missing out on their fair share of funding within the borough at the Royal Borough's children's services overview and scrutiny panel on Tuesday.

The comments came from Roz Sendorek, headteacher at Oakfield First School in Windsor and Marcia Twelftree, outgoing headteacher at Charters School in Sunningdale.

Last December, Jeff Dawkins, Headteacher of Windsor Boys School had asked questions in the press about why the borough had completely left Windsor schools out of its first tranche of bids under the government's building schools for the future programme.

A council cabinet report identified several Windsor Schools as being in greater need than some of the Maidenhead Schools which are getting priority. However the Conservative council blamed the Labour Government, claiming they were required to look at whole areas in one go.

Roz Sendorek, headteacher at Oakfield First School in Windsor, said: "We are concerned that all the council money for schools is going into schools at Maidenhead."

Marcia Twelftree, outgoing headteacher of Charters, said: "There is a perception that a lot of the council money always goes to Maidenhead first. You have to be conscious of this."
