EURO ELECTIONS: Results

The results are in for the European Elections 2009 and here are the results for the South East.

Voters in the Royal Borough dealt a body blow to Labour candidates as European election results were announced at the Magnet Leisure Centre on Sunday night.

The government's share of the vote in Windsor and Maidenhead plummeted to just 2,075, placing it behind UKIP, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party in fifth place.

The Conservative Party, as expected romped, home with 15,409 votes beating the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) into second place with 6,083, and the Liberal Democrats came third with 5,234 votes.

After the borough's votes were added to those of the South East, the following candidates were announced as elected MEPs (Members of European Parliament):

James Elles (Con)

Daniel Hannan (Con)

Richard Ashworth(Con)

Nirj Deva DL (Con)

Sharon Bowles (Lib Dem)

Catherine Bearder (Lib Dem)

Nigel Farage (UKIP)

Marta Andreasen (UKIP)

Peter Skinner (Lab)

Caroline Lucas (Green)

Turnout across the borough was marginally higher than five years ago with 36.71 per cent of eligible voters coming out to vote compared with 33.51 per cent in 2004.

A total of 27,536 votes were cast across the borough which were added to 8,305 postal votes.
