Look After Us

By Name and address supplied in The Royal Borough Observer Readers Forum - Letter from a Local Resident

Do we have an MP who represents the interests of Windsor residents or one who wishes to play with Windsor voters for party political advantage?

I ask this question having read our MP, Adam Afriyies's thoughts on the third runway and specifically the ending of the Cranford Agreement (Royal Borough Observer, April 24). This agreement has now ended following an announcement in January by Geoff Hoon, the Minister for Transport. This will bring immediate benefits to Windsor residents that our MP does not seem to recognise.

Our London neighbours, who he seems so anxious to placate, are vociferous in their desire to retain Cranford and are lobbying hard to this end. Why does our MP seem more anxious to appease them than to support his own constituents?

I attended the RBWM aviation forum on April 24, attended by Mr Afriyie, and he was left in no doubt, both by members of the public and councillors, that we would like him to press both BAA and the Civil Aviation Authority for early implementation of runway alternation. Residents can then obtain noise relief at the earliest opportunity.

Nobody living in Windsor wants a third runway but we do want runway alternation as soon as possible and we should expect our MP to do all he can to expedite this. It is misleading to align the two issues. Cranford and airport expansion are separate seperate and should be treated as such.

I write this as a Conservative voter. It seems to me that our MP, secure in his safe seat, may feel that he can afford to disregard local voters in order not to alienate more marginal seats around the airport prior to a general election.
