Antony Wood Delivers Meals on Weels

Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Local Resident and Clewer South Councillor, Antony Wood, was in Ascot again last Thursday, helping out at The Chandler Centre. The centre, run by Heather Hogben, provides a social forum and care services for the elderly.

Mr. Wood helped catering staff to deliver food to those unable to travel, and chatted with clients at the centre on subjects like pensions and council tax. "I was told that the increases in Council tax under Labour have hurt Pensioners a lot. They were pleased to hear that the Liberal Democrats would make life better for pensioners an extra £100 a week in pensions, and the abolition of Council Tax being the main ways." Said Antony Wood.

During the morning Councillor Wood visited twenty housebound elderly people who rely on Meals on Wheels for a nourishing hot meal and a chat! The round is run by Barbara Grant-Adamson, who has been an activist at the centre for over ten years. "I love this work" she said "it gives me a chance to put something back into the community, and I get a lot from it!"

Mr. Wood continued "The work they do is very impressive, and it is surprising that they are looking for more members." Said Mr. Wood "For £3 and a voluntary donation pensioners receive snacks, a two course meal and transport to the centre. There are activities like indoor bowls and Bingo, in which small cash prizes can be won. During the day there are lots of opportunities for people to get together socially.
